Mountain Bike Trails

This area encompasses the ridge that separates San Fernando Valley from Simi Valley. It has a fine selection of trails from the very easy trails in Corriganville Park to long or rocky trails up the Rocky Peak Ridge.

 

CHATSWORTH PARK
Chatsworth Park consists of a south section and a north section which are separate. There is no direct trail connection between them. However, they both have hiking trails up to Santa Susana Pass, so a long hiking loop can be made.

CHUMASH TRAIL - Length: 2.5 miles. Elevation Change: 1,100 ft.
This is a trail going from Simi Valley to the Rocky Peak trail on the ridgeline between Simi and San Fernando Valleys. It climbs through chaparral and offers little shade. From the top, it offers views of both valleys.
Trailhead: The trailhead is located at the end of Flanagan Drive off of Yosemite Ave.

CORRIGANVILLE PARK
A park with a system of easy trails, including an wildlife and historical interpretation trail. It has several trails leading out of the park to another small park and up the hill towards Santa Susana Pass.
Trailhead: Corriganville Park is located on Smith Road in Simi Valley.

HUMMINGBIRD TRAIL - Length: 2.3 miles. Elevation Change 1,000 ft.
This is a trail going from Simi Valley to Rocky Peak Trail on the ridgeline between Simi and San Fernando Valleys. Halfway up to Rocky Peak Trail, the trail passes several small caves. The longest cave is over 100 feet long. Just down the Rocky Peak Trail from the junction is the Rock House, a small room built under a rock overhang.
Trailhead: The trail starts on the northern end of Kuehner Drive north of the 118 freeway in Simi Valley. A sign at a turn in the road marks the trailhead.

NEW STAGE COACH TRAIL - Elevation change: 150 ft.
This is a short single track trail connecting Santa Susana Pass Road just east of Rocky Peak Trailhead to a parking area/trailhead on Lilac Lane.
Trailhead: One trailhead is on Santa Susana Pass Road just east of the Rocky Peak Exit of 118. The other trailhead is on Lilac Lane a half mile south of Santa Susana Pass Road.

RIM OF THE VALLEY TRAIL - Length: 6.7 kilometers. Elevation change: 1,200 ft.
This is an old road that has degraded into a rocky trail. You can still see patches of asphalt in unexpected spots. The trail runs from a private development in Chatsworth to the Rocky Peak Trail. The trail is 5.2 kilometers one way to the Rocky Peak Trail on the valley rim. However, there is also 1.5 km of road through the private development. The development has a green line guiding you along the streets to the trail. There are two entrances for the development and both are open for trail use.
Trailhead: One lower trailhead starts on Iverson Road. The other lower trailhead is on the north side of the Topanga Canyon Blvd. exit of the 118 freeway. You walk or ride through a private development. There is an open gate left of the guardhouse.

ROCKY PEAK TRAIL - Length: 6.5 miles. Elevation change: 1,050 ft.
This is a dirt road trail. It starts at a trail head at the Rocky Peak exit of the west bound 118 freeway. From the trailhead it is 0.8 miles to the Hummingbird trail with an elevation gain of 575 feet. From the Hummingbird trail it is an additional 1.7 miles to the Rocky Peak Cutoff with an elevation gain of 475 feet. From the Rocky Peak Cutoff to the Chumash trail it is an additional 1.3 miles with an elevation drop of 200 feet. This trail provides views of both Simi and San Fernando Valleys. It ends at a locked gate 3.5 kilometers beyond Chumash Trail.
Trailhead: The trail starts on the north side of the Rocky Peak exit from the 118 freeway in the Santa Susana Pass.

STAGE COACH TRAIL - Elevation change: 250 ft.
This is a path that parallels the old stage coach route. It leads from the Wildlife Corridor Trail up to the Santa Susana Pass Road a short distance west of the Rocky Peak Trailhead.
Trailhead: The lower trailhead is located in Corriganville Park on Smith Road in Simi Valley. The upper trailhead is on Santa Susana Pass Road a quarter mile west of the Rocky Peak exit of the 118 Freeway.

WILDLIFE CORRIDOR TRAIL - Elevation change: 900 ft.
This is a path leading from Corriganville Park to Rocky Peak Trail. The trail passes under the 118 freeway through a wildlife tunnel. It has some rocky sections. A short way up Rocky Peak Trail from the junction is the Rock House, a small room built under a rock overhang.
Trailhead: The trailhead is located in Corriganville Park on Smith Road in Simi Valley.
