Chatsworth Park

Hiking Trails

CHATSWORTH PARK NORTH
This park has a short paved loop trail. Additionally a steep foot trail heads up the local hillside. Caution, several trails are posted, stay away from these because they lead to the patrolled rail lines. The unmarked and unposted trail climbs the hill avoiding the rail line and connects into a trail system leading up to the Santa Susana Pass.
Trailhead: This park is located on the western end of Chatsworth Blvd.

CHATSWORTH PARK SOUTH
There is a 2 kilometer trail that circles three quarters of the way around the park. Also the Old Stagecoach Equestrian Trail begins in this park and travels up to Santa Susana Pass. Additionally, there are numerous trails leading out of this part to the north, west, and south.
Trailhead: Chatsworth Park South is located on the western end of Devonshire.

NEW STAGE COACH TRAIL - Elevation change: 150 ft.
This is a short single track trail connecting Santa Susana Pass Road just east of Rocky Peak Trailhead to a parking area/trailhead on Lilac Lane.
Trailhead: One trailhead is on Santa Susana Pass Road just east of the Rocky Peak Exit of 118. The other trailhead is on Lilac Lane a half mile south of Santa Susana Pass Road.

OLD STAGECOACH EQUESTRIAN TRAIL - Length: 3 km (1.9 mi). Elevation change: 700 ft.
This is part of the old stage coach route that ran through the Santa Susana Pass in the 1800's. It is not completely obvious because there are several unmarked trail junctions and the stage coach route is not always the largest. The trail starts at the entrance to Chatsworth Park South and follows along the edge of the park. In 0.7 kilometers there is a dirt trail to the left, follow this up a short distance to a paved road and turn right. (alternatively you can start on Larwin Ave at the Santa Susana Park sign or at the end of Jeffrey Mark Court, both of these come in on the partially paved road) Quickly, a trail appears on the left, take this up. Starting in a half kilometer there are a series of unmarked trail junctions, generally you want to go up and toward the pass not the ridge. The upper portion of the trail is on rugged bedrock. There is an historical marker along this section. The trail ends up on Lilac Lane at the beginning of the New Stagecoach trail. Coming down from the pass you generally want to take the down trails at the junction. However, at 1.3 kilometers from the top, you hit a dirt road at a right angle, you want to go left here and straight through the next intersection.
Trailhead: The entrance of Chatsworth Park South on the western end of Devonshire Street. An alternative route starts on Larwin Ave at the Santa Susana Park sign or at the end of Feffrey Mark Court. The upper trailhead is on Lilac Lane where the road makes a sharp right turn.
