HIKING TRAILS: These trails are good for hiking, walking, jogging and all around foot travel. There are many such trails throughout the mountains. There are also trails scattered throughout the city in parks and along rivers. This site will list many trails in the city along with trails in the adjacent mountains.
MOUNTAIN BIKING TRAILS: These are dirt trails suitable for mountain biking. They will include both double track (dirt roads) and single track (trails). Dirt roads included in this listing are closed to public motor vehicles.
EQUESTRIAN: These trails are commonly used for horse riding or are designated as horse or pack trails.
PAVED TRAILS: These paved trails and roads are closed to motor vehicles. They are good for street bicycles, roller blading, and baby strollers. These are usually found within the city limits, often in parks or along waterways.
EXTREME HIKES: These hikes are not for you. These hikes include route finding and technical abilities. They may include climbing, rappelling, fall danger, wading or swimming, and floods. These hikes will most definitely include the biological hazards of poison oak, rattlesnakes, and ticks. These hikes are for the few crazy people out there that like adventure and would never sue somebody when they get hurt because of their own choices or actions.
JEEP TRAILS: These are dirt roads that are not suitable for street cars. Most of these trails near Los Angeles only require high clearance vehicles. There are some sections that require true four wheel drive vehicles.
